~~ National Trails Day 2007 on the Ft. Braden Trail ~~

On June 2nd, in the face of wind and rain from a tropical depression, twenty-one hardy hikers gathered at Fort Braden Trails on Hwy 20 to celebrate National Trails Day 2007. During the morning downpour, a brief history of the hiking trail was narrated. Specific attention was given to Kent Wimmer’s major role in the trail’s creation and he was given an award.

Fortunately, the rain ceased in time for a hike of the 3.5-mile central loop connecting the trailhead with Lake Talquin and the lakeside picnic pavilion. The early rain had broken the extended drought and the woods were alive with bird song.

Back at the trailhead shelter, the group enjoyed a picnic lunch with sandwiches, slaw, potato salad, chips, cookies, watermelon and drinks.
