Subj: Regional Conference - Your Help Requested

The Choctawhatchee Chapter is sponsoring the Regional Conference the weekend of October 23 -25, 2009. This is now less than two months off. We would like to ask the Apalachee Chapter to help with the Conference in two ways: 1. Take on the responsibility for the continental breakfasts both Saturday and Sunday mornings; and 2. provide items for the silent raffle. Both are fundraisers with proceeds being shared among North Region Chapters.

The continental breakfasts would be offered to participants for a suggested donation. The cost and all profits would go directly to the sponsoring Chapter (Apalachee).

The silent raffle will be Friday afternoon into Saturday evening. We’re asking participants and fellow chapters to donate items for the raffle. We will sell raffle tickets for participants to deposit in a bag associated with each item. Profit sharing will be based upon which chapter donated the item. As at past conferences, we will accept most anything but prefer hiking and/or camping gear. An alternative is the donation of wine for the raffle. Bottles of good, moderately priced wines are always popular and many members may select this option.

NOW SOME ADVERTIZING: In addition to the programs the conference will feature the FTA Store, Hospitality Bar (wine and beer for donations), kayak rentals, burger burn (Friday night), and separate 50/50 raffle (sometimes referred to as ‘split the pot’) for Friday and Saturday. Timpoochee permits tenting and RV parking (no hook ups), bunkhouses and has limited waterfront cottages.

Our sponsoring of the conference serves to promote the Florida Trail and FTA. But we have two additional objectives: 1. Promote camaraderie among members; and 2. Make a profit from the fundraisers. When you come plan to have FUN and bring your checkbook.

Choctawhatchee will be performing the lion’s share of the workload, but we can use help! Please let me know ASAP if you can help with the continental breakfasts? Our next planning meeting will be Sept 15th and we’ll hope to finalize the breakfast question. Call if you have any questions.
